Professional training courses

AST offers a range of professional courses from introductory, foundation courses that provide an overview of aircraft systems and maintenance processes, through to the approved courses necessary for licensed engineer status. AST, in partnership with Perth College UHI, also offers articulation to and from a range of academic programmes including BEng (Hons) Aircraft Maintenance Engineering.

Approved IR Part 66 Category A

AST's approved category A courses last 32 weeks, of which 25 are spent on theory and practical lessons, and 5 on the OJT placement split by a 2 week holiday.

AST's approved category B courses have a duration of 89 training weeks, less than 2 years when student annual leave of 5 weeks and public holidays are added.

It is also possible to intersperse approved course training with experience requirements. This is known as the Integrated Sandwich Course.

AST provides a flexible short modular course programme, that provides the theoretical knowledge and examinations required to meet the requirements for lifting limitations imposed when converting from a BCAR to EASA Licence.

Our non-certifying courses are suited to those that would like an introduction to aeronautical engineering or the self improver.
