Since 1 July 1999, as part of European Aviation Harmonisation, the Joint Aviation Authority (JAA) regulations have required that an MCC Course be completed prior to the first multi-crew type rating being endorsed on a pilot’s licence.
Conducted in a Flight and Navigation Procedures Trainer (FNPT2), the MCC is needed before a student can act as crew of a Multi-Pilot aircraft. Using the FNPT2 can also be combined with the student’s first experience of jet turbine operations.
The MCC introduces the student to Standard Operating Procedures which are based closely upon those of typical short-haul jet airlines, with checklists, flight plans, performance manuals similar to those that you will find "on the line".
Currently, most prospective Airline and Cargo employers require that applicants have completed an MCC course.
