This course, like many of the traditional apprenticeship schemes, lasts for 4 years and meets both training and experiential requirements for licensing during that time.
In each of the first 3 years of the course students will undertake 22 weeks of study at AST. They will then return to their sponsoring organisation for 3 weeks OJT and 24 weeks of maintenance experience. It is assumed that all periods of annual leave will be taken whilst in the work experience phases.
In the final year there are 11 weeks of training at AST, 3 weeks of OJT, and the remainder adding to the student’s experience requirement.
There are many benefits from this approach. For example, the sponsor gains a useful and knowledgeable employee from the very first period of secondment, which is enhanced as each experience phase occurs.
Additionally the students will be exposed to real working environments and modern aircraft technologies at regular intervals.
